Do I need probate?
In some simple cases you may not need probate – but you’ll probably need it if the person who died owned property or they had more than £5,000 to £10,000 in a bank (the exact amount depends on the bank).
How long does probate take?
The time from someone dying to receiving your inheritance is often six months to a year – but it varies depending on quite a few factors.
Do I have to pay inheritance tax?
There’s no inheritance tax to pay if the estate is worth less than £325,000, or £500,000 in some circumstances. Above that, you'll typically pay 40% tax, however you may be able to claim further exemptions/reliefs.
